Too Much Water

Behold... our latest worry.

One of our favorite restaurants about 4 blocks from our house -

The picture above was taken the afternoon they closed the Greenbelt in Eagle.  We were biking on the Greenbelt literally 1 hour before they came down with tape and equipment to block the access points.  We couldn't believe it.  It's depressing because the Belt will likely remain closed until June or even July.

The worst is the risk of evacuation.  We only have 2 bridges off the island and if the critical levee at the gravel pit up from Eagle fails (85% chance according to the US Army Corps of Engineers), 1 of those bridges will be under water.  They might call for mandatory evacuations at that point.

I definitely do NOT want to be one of those people the world saw sitting on their roofs in New Orleans while helicopters rescued them during Hurricane Katrina.  But I also don't want to evacuate, because once you leave, they won't let you back in until they deem the area safe.  No way.  Regardless, our 72 hour kits and evacuation plans are ready.  We did a trial run last month and Pretty Girl actually grabbed the pot of chili I'd been making for dinner off the stove and brought it to the car.

We've not perfected it yet.

And then the whole mess with Syria started today and the horrible people who released nerve gas on those families.  Whoever pushed the button on that one - I have a date set with you in the next life.  Me and several thousand other people.  There is no mercy for such an attack against little, innocent souls.

And then the never ending job hunt...

Sigh!  Heavenly Father is indeed a patient and loving God to hear so many of my constant prayers.  He's seen these emergencies before.  Centuries and centuries of them.  None of this is new to Him.  And yet He still listens.  He still comforts.

"And were it possible that man could number the particles of the earth, yea, millions of earths like this, it would not be a beginning to the number of thy creations; and thy curtains are stretched out still; and yet thou art there...and also thou art just; thou art merciful and kind forever." - Moses 7:30
