Confessions of a Video Game Junkie

It's time to come clean.

I absolutely love playing video games.

And I especially love playing them with my kids. Sadly, we played for 2 hours straight the other day. (remind me to sit on a pillow next time...)

Most of the game was spent making up silly songs whenever Mario would float into "coin heaven", a couple of tickling-wrestling matches emerged in-between bowling turns, and we ended up scaring Pirate a couple times with our uncontrolled screaming when we "died".

Experts say video games are horribly destructive for young minds.

We're doomed.

Books My Kids Love

Have you seen these books?

They are the Elephant & Piggie series by Mo Willems. And my children adore them. Willems has an impressive history of writing - including several years on Sesame Street in the late 80s and early 90s.

(you know...back when Sesame Street was still brilliant and funny)

My kids love the illustrations and the dialogue. And if you ham up the voices - do a deep voice for the elephant and a high-pitched voice for Piggie - it's quite hilarious.

Lots and lots of laughing.

Showing The Love

Valentines Eve was rough with Our Pirate. Maybe 2 hours of sleep. So it was all the more sweet when I found these the next morning.

Pirate and Mom were sooooo happy.

Sweetie's response to this particular gift, "Mom, I don't remember promising that one."

Atlas Shrugged, Part I

I have no idea if this will be good.

But it's the first film adaptation of Dagny Taggert. And if Our Pirate had been a girl, she would have been my Dagny.

I'm Still Not Used to This

The other evening I came home from driving Our Big Guy to karate class. I came inside the house suddenly feeling 10 pounds lighter, swinging my arms free, dropping my keys carelessly into the bowl, watching Pretty Girl hurry upstairs to get her blanket.

I mentally went through my list.

Greg will be picking up Big Guy in 1 hour.
Sweetie is downstairs watching Ben 10.
Pretty Girl is happy upstairs.

Excellent. We're all good. Maybe I can actually sit down and check email. And a nap is looking really plausible right now. Then it hits me...I'm forgetting something...

The Pirate is still in his car seat. In the car.

He was fine. Mom wasn't.

A Flood is Coming...

...and my kids are ready.

This is Our Sweetie's longest pair of pants. And even though Mom keeps trying to get him to low-ride - just a bit - it doesn't last. He likes to pull them up. Way up.

Several inches above his belly button.

Gah! I'm alone in a sea of short and big pants.

This feels really uncomfortable. And I'm not even wearing the pants.
