Pretty Girl, Pretty Girl...

She turned 2 this week.

She's so beautiful, confident, exquisite.

She's patient with her mother whose never styled straight hair before.

She's crazy about her dad. Not always crazy about her brothers.

She often feels a bit of self entitlement.

She doesn't know how long I waited for her or that I thank God for her daily.

She amazes me. How did this delightful, pixie-like creature come from me?

She reminds me of my mom.

And now she's 2.

I adore her. I'm crazy nuts about her. And I love her so completely.

Summer 2009

June was blessedly cool. July was amazing! August dragged, and dragged....

Here are some summer highlights -

6:00 AM, 3 days a week, I got to swim laps here. Life is sweet.

Every morning we had jobs, homework, scripture study and a mandatory "I love you Mom". Snow cones make wonderful rewards.

We did A LOT of yardwork this summer. We're getting there....slowly.

Finally had a chance to read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.

Camping, parades, demolition derbys, fish and cousins.

Learning that building a food storage is A LOT more physical work than it first appears.

And dreaming big. Very big :)

I Didn't Fall On My Face

This summer I decided to embark on road biking. Having absolutely zero experience in this area, I enlisted the aid of my darling sister-in-law, Mauricette. I'm so glad she agreed. She was a huge help.
The whole experince was addicting - I definitely want to keep going. And while I'd like to look that I know what I'm doing, here's how you can tell I still haven't a clue -

1. That's not my bike.
2. I'm wearing my running shoes. Yep - too scared to go clipless.
3. The biking shorts and helmet (not pictured) are both Greg's.
4. I'm not wearing a jersey. It's just a top that works.
5. The seat is shorter than it should be. Again - scared to fall.

There's a famous womens-only bike race in the spring called Little Red Riding Hood up Logan canyon. My goal is the 60 mile race. I have about 8 months to get ready...

Eleven Years

Next year I promise I'll come up with something more poetic and meaningful. Unfortunately, TS Eliot (my current poetry reading) doesn't really cater to devotion of the soul - unless you want to hear the lines I love about coffee spoons and white, flannel trousers. So in the meantime, here's some of my favorite lyrics that remind me of you.

I love you.

You see everything. You see every part
You see all my light, and you love my dark
You dig everything of which I'm ashamed
There's not anything to which you cant relate
And you're still here...

-Alanis Morissette, Everything-

PS - the flowers were beautiful!
