Warm, Sunny San Diego

Ahhh...San Diego.

Land of sunshine, whales, seals, crazy nut-case environmental people who yelled at Greg, horrible horrible horrible downtown Los Angeles traffic, Carlton and Robyn!, 1st McKinnon grandchild wedding, beaches, Trader Joe's, and Ralphs.

(We love Ralphs. You have to understand - we have a special spot in our hearts for Ralphs).

Sad to leave...

My Sweetie Turns 4!

He's the sweet, gentle side of our family - always concerned for others, wanting to help people feel better, feel included. He's already an example to his mother and he doesn't even know it yet.

And my favorite part - he still loves to crawl into my lap and cuddle. I'm so glad! I'm well aware the clock is ticking, he will very soon be bigger and taller than both his parents. I'll keep him in my arms as long as possible...

Because we all know the best way to get out of a hole is to dig faster.

Rivalry week begins!

We need Ute jokes (disregard that fact that the “U of U” and “joke” are synonymous).

I’ll post a few of my favorites for now, and keep adding to the post until next week.

Q: What is one of the few similarities between a Utah student and a BYU student?
A: They both applied to BYU.

Q: What is the hardest part about being a Ute fan?
A: Having to tell you parents that you’re gay.

Q: Why doesn't the U have a nativity scene at Christmas?
A: They can't find 3 wise men OR a virgin.

Q: How do you get a Ute grad off your porch?
A: Pay him for the pizza.

Q: Why do University of Utah fans keep their diplomas on their dashboards?
A: So they can park in handicap spaces.

Q. What did the Utah graduate say to the BYU graduate?
A. "Welcome to McDonald's. May I take your order?"

Q: What's the difference between a Utah fan and a carp?
A: One is a bottom-feeding, scum sucker, and the other is a fish.

Q: What do you get when you cross a University of Utah fan and a pig?
A: Nothing. There's some things that a pig will not do.

It was reported that Utah head football coach Kyle Whittingham will only be dressing twenty players for the BYU game. The rest of the players will have to get dressed by themselves.

One day in an elementary school in Salt Lake City, UT, a teacher asks her class if the Utah Utes are their favorite football team. The whole class says yes, except for Little Lizzie.

The teacher asks, "What's your favorite football team Lizzie?"

Little Lizzie says, "The BYU Cougars "

The teacher asks, "Well, why is that?"

Little Lizzie says, "Well, my dad is a Cougar fan, my mom is a Cougar fan, I guess that makes me a Cougar fan."

The teacher angered by her reply says, "If your dad was a moron and your mom was an idiot what would that make you?"

Little Lizzie says, "Well, I guess that would make me a Utah fan."

To note - we have some very good friends / family that are Ute grads, and they are as intelligent and decent as anybody we know, but they are the exception and not the rule. :)

(BTW - this is Greg)

Halloween 2009

This year we hosted our friends annual Halloween party. It was a lot of fun! Everyone had amazing costumes and brought yummy food. We loved it! Cannot wait for next year. Honestly, we need more excuses to get together without the kids.

(PS - No - I did NOT carve the pumpkin above. I have a sweet neighbor who is crazy about Twilight - more so, Dr. Cullen.)

The heart of Halloween - our kids! Big Guy went as Iron Man (never seen the movie, the cartoon, etc. Go figure.) Sweetie went as a skelton again, and Pretty Girl was a ballerina.

I went as Anne Boleyn. Reading a 500+ page bio of King Henry VIII this summer really sunk in...

My Big Guy's Award

Our Big Guy won an award last week for creating an excellent chart illustrating the power of counting by "10's". When the principal asked him to explain his work, our Big Guy was articulate, confident and amazing! :)

Love you and proud of you!

A Few More...

Had to throw these up here. These shots (all void of human interest) really captured the beauty of the place. Miss it so much already.

This trip took almost 2 years of planning, 8 years of wishing, and 1 set of parents to go on a mission and leave their time-share behind - and it was absolutely fabulous! We loved being there with Shayne and Lea.

Every morning we ate breakfast on our balcony with stunning views, we packed lunches with camelbacks for daily hikes to waterfalls, got bitten by a million mosquitoes, saw dolphins 2 feet in front of us, discovered hidden pools for lap swimming, snorkeled daily with Swedish goggles :), went on bike rides, swallowed mountain-loads of shaved ice, kicked up amazing waves, ate at the world-famous Puka-Dogs (twice!), and got a tattoo!!

We were a crazy lot.

(don't miss the last picture. My favorite by far.)
